Are you a fan of retro video games? Have you heard of Troy Baker or Nolan North, or maybe both?
They’re a pretty big deal in voice acting. Troy has voiced various characters across multiple mediums, including anime, film and, of course, video games. You might recognize him by his roles as Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4, Booker DeWitt in Bioshock Infinite or, most notably, Joel in The Last of Us.
Nolan, on the other hand, has been providing our favorite characters with lively and authentic voices for over two decades and is likely best known for his portrayal of Nathan Drake, the main protagonist of Uncharted series; other noteworthy roles include, but are not limited to, The Prince (not the singer) from Prince of Persia, Penguin from Batman: Arkham City, and Captain Martin Walker from Spec Ops: The Line.
As recently as 2016, they even collaborated in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End by voicing two of the entry’s main characters, Nathan and Sam, and are known to have become close friends on this side of the screen. Both of them are considered to be among the best in their art, numerous awards being the proof of that, and have without a doubt propelled video game voice acting to new heights.
You may be rolling your eyes at this because they seem to be in every single video game ever. If not, then you’ll be pleased to hear that they are launching a new show called Retro Replay in which they will play video games from their childhood, maybe yours too, share experiences, and just goof around on a comfy-looking couch. Who knows, maybe they will finally reveal how to become a voice-acting champ, too.
The first episode, featuring Amazing Spider-Man, will launch on May 10, 2018, and the trailer for Season 1 is already available to give you a sneak-peek at what you’re going to get with these guys.
You can check out the website and sign up to their mailing list as well. I’m sure they’re nice guys and won’t spam your inbox. Probably.
